Margot – France 2 EP [29BCD]

Release Notes :

Margot’s first Border Community release has been a long time coming: back in 2005 the Italian duo of Pepe and Giaga first supported James Holden at a show at
the Cubadust Club near their hometown of Riccione, and since then they have kept up a prolonged campaign of mp3 demo ping pong with our noble leader. Over the
past year barely a James Holden DJ set has gone by without the inclusion of something from the prolific Margot repertoire, so it really was high time that
we settled on the winning four track combination that would make up their first Border Community EP: the ‘France 2 EP’ is the momentous result, and we are
confident that there will be many more to come..//

Release Notes Continue :

‘France 2’ deservedly takes the headline-grabbing attention-seeking A1 position on the vinyl, named after
Giaga’s love of the French touch, although to us it is pure Mediterranean melodrama with a bold approach to gut-wrenching operatic melody that Vangelis
himself would be proud of. ‘Voci Giaga’ completes the anthemic A-side, an atonal melancholic vocal symphony whose delicate ever-so-slightly-Thom-Yorke-esque
harmonies emanate from the somewhat surprising source of Giaga’s strapping muscular 6ft frame. The B-side provides a welcome outlet for Margot’s own brand
of equally-danceable club-kraut that we feel ought to be the soundtrack to this
part of the 21st century. ‘H2’ (on the B1, confusingly…) is an exuberant explosion of arpeggios underpinned by an insistent analogue groove that sets Mr
Holden windmilling uncharacteristically around the DJ booth every time he plays it.

To finish, the heady, disorientating ‘Oceano’ promises to be a key component
of many a DJ journey over the coming months, leaving your faithful disciples just-the-right-kind-of-lost within the cosy dancefloor bubble. The Margot name
may indeed already be familiar to attentive Border Community fans following 2006’s isolated Soft Cell cover outing on Great Stuff ‘The Torch’, which was
retouched by our Germanic dance duo Extrawelt to massive effect, popping up on many a mix CD the world over. Their own Margot Records imprint has also kept the
dancefloor supplied with stylish idiosyncratic beats via mp3 and the odd coveted slice of limited vinyl since 2006, ‘Goblin Think’ and ‘Punch’ being notable
highlights.

Back home in Italy, from their base in Riccione (home of the infamous Cocorico club, where the pair first cut their DJ teeth) Margot have
built up a considerable following across the country for their own unique live-and-DJ-set blend, despite not exactly toeing the Italian-minimal party
line. With the release of the ‘France 2 EP’ via Border Community now is clearly
the time for them to reach out to the rest of the world.
