Cosmobox Direct DownloadsFrench synthesizer obsessive, occasional bass player and one-time obsessive blogger DyE (aka musician Juan De Guillebon) has always been something of an eccentric curiosity. He described his acclaimed 2011 debut album, the decidedly intergalactic Taki 183, as his “sci-fi universe”, with each track being “the colour of a mood”. We’re currently unsure as to the inspiration for this sophomore set, but it’s as vivid, colourful and quirky as usual. While it’s hard to pin down exactly where it sits, stylistically, there are clear influences from 1970s French avant garde synthesizer music, sassy synth-pop, electroclash, Kraftwerk, IDM and ’80s electro (Egyptian Lover even makes a guest appearance). As a result, Cocktail Citron is a riot of crazy ideas, thrilling sounds and bizarre sci-fi posturing.
