Release review Lee van Dowski & Dean Demanuele – What’s Up Doc

Esteemed tech house titan Lee van Dowski teams up with Dean Demanuele once again here for a new EP on Dazed & Confused Recordings. It comes after a recent pairing on Mobilee and once again shows the pair’s heritage and skill when it comes to crafting infectious dancefloor grooves.

Van Dowski, of course, has a long history and fine discography touching on labels like Cadenza, Memento and Material Series and Demanuele is just as respected for his work on Bedrock among others. The three new cuts on this EP are as engaging as tech house gets and mark the first collaboration for this pair on Dean’s label, which has been going a year now and has already picked up great support.

Up first, What’s Up Doc is a tight, sandy groove with rattling percussion, paranoid sounding voices that fall through out the mix and driving drums. It’s a pure dancing track that urges you to get involved and Mine o Mine is similarly direct, with its crisp, pining kick drums, uneven saw tooth synth line that burrows ever deeper and nice warm chords bringing some soul to the groove.

Last but not least, Shove it up Master is a deeper, darker affair that’s rubbery and bubbly and has some killer chords to brighten up the beats. Aimed squarely at your ass, this is fine dancing music, pure and simple.

Lee van Dowski and Dean Demanuele, now on their fourth collaboration, are a pair well worth checking out, and so too is Dean’s own Dazed & Confused label growing ever more essential with each release.
