Cosmobox Direct DownloadsWelcome to Warsaw: a city in a buoyant state of hope, opportunities and creative, cultural flux. Home to a new generation of creative minds, eager to fill the spaces left by the countrys economic exodus last decade. Making the city their own with galleries, exhibitions, performances, clubs and restaurants, theres a tangible buzz of about the Polish capital thats bold, progressive and wholly immersive. Its a buzz thats been instantly imbibed by Pets Recordings founders Grzegorz Demiaczuk and Wojciech Tarañczuk (AKA Catz N Dogz) every time they return to their homeland. And this far-reaching, soul-smouldered EP is a celebration of two particular creative outlets theyve been impressed by on every trip: U Know Me and Warsoul. A discerning label with a respected global pedigree for fine-tuned vinyl releases, U Know Me is a dedication to undiluted freshness. Established in 2002 By Marcin “Groh”Grokiewicz as a vinyl-only JuNouMi hip hop label, in 2010 he decided to start a new, electronic chapter – U Know Me. Right now their catalogue boasts over 30 releases from the likes of Kixnare, Mr. Krime, Eltron John and Daniel Drumz. Representing the citys capacity for grooves far beyond industrial strength techno and endless sunrise hedonism sessions, U Know Mes tendrils tickle the citys most soulful underbelly. Warsoul are the consummate kindred spirits. A collective of artists, musicians, writers and promoters founded by Maceo Wyro, Warsoul have hosted some of the citys most distinctive, idiosyncratic events from silent movie festivals to monthly sessions where world-renowned artists such as 7 Samurai, Mark De Clive-Lowe, Sa-Ra, Little Dragon and Coultrain have made many new friends. Sadly Maceo suffered an aneurysm and died suddenly this spring, but his spirit lives on.They always played tracks that nobody else was playing and I was always fascinated by this amazing eclectic taste, says U Know Mes Groh of Maceo and the Warsoul crew. If you say that there are people who are irreplaceable, Maceo was definitely one of themHowever, this unique four-track collection is not just a tribute to Maceos legacy, its a much a wider celebration of Warsaws unfathomably deep pool of talent and creativity. Even the stunning artwork comes from acclaimed Polish graphic designer and fashion brand Turbokolor founder – Swanski. A dense brew of soul, house, hip-hop and bass, its Pets most personal curation to date We guarantee you will not be sent another release like this for a long, long time. Enjoy. Teielte & Sonar Soul – SaturnScene-shaping Warsaw DJ stalwarts, both Teielte and Sonar Soul will be serving up their new releases this summer. This breakthrough collaboration has been penned especially for the compilation as a way of expressing their love for Warsouls influence. A rolling, skippy dancefloor track coated in dreamy instrumentation, it nods its head towards both techno and trap, sitting perfectly between the likes of Bonobo and Just Blaze.Envee – KaliGlowing, sub-soaking contemporary bass from Maciej Golinski: Envee is one half of Polish duo Innocent Sorcerers. Renowned for his technically firing DJ skills and vast explorative taste, hes supported countless amazing acts all over Poland.A reinterpretation of a track by Dada, the smouldering vocals come courtesy of the mighty Sqbass, the star-gazing trumpet is tooted by Dominik Trebski while Wojtek Sobura takes care of drums. Catz N Dogz Catz believe Kali is one of the best Polish dub-inspired tracks ever made.Archeo – WarsoulNatalia and Paulina are two of the most well-known Polish soul and RnB singers. Their regular appearances at Warsoul parties – including a historic live jam with Bilal – have become the stuff of city legend.Referencing the roots from Erykah Badu to Amp Fiddler, this was made especially for this release and was produced by Wroclaw band Night Marks Electric Trio. Making their label debut this month, theyve been deep in creative sonic science since 2010 and have been supported by U Know Me with heavy radio, press and club support since day one. Innocent Sorcerers – Sweet Slang A fittingly poignant finale, this was created by Envee and Maceo Wyro when Coultrain and Blackspade landed in town for a Warsoul party this spring. With an air of DAngelo and Mos Def to the jazz-licked groove and lyrics that instantly transport you to the very heart of the Warsoul and U Know Me ethos, Sweet Slang joins the dots and unites the souls between the Polish creative hotbed and the US scene that its taken so much influence and invested so much love in over the years. Envee describes the studio session as a spiritual moment with an air of great energy. Listen and you can feel every ounce of that energy. A truly special way to end a truly special release.
