This year, Chicago’s Large Records will hit 200 releases – a remarkable achievement in anyone’s book, and testament to the label’s epic, 22-year journey. Here they kick off 2015 by welcoming back Secret Reels regulars Purple Velvet. As you might expect from both label and artist, Marble Zone oozes class, with the title track coming on like the deep house equivalent of dancing barefoot on a rug while someone massages your head with scented oils. There’s a chunkier alternative in the shape of the superb Vocal Dub version of the same track – think heavy sub, trippy riffs, bouncing beats and filter-clad pianos – while “Drawn Out” sounds like the sort of winding, sun-kissed gear that should be blasting out of terrace bars and clubs come the summer.
