Cosmobox Direct DownloadsThis two-tracker from Blank State regular Rene Audiard – his first release for 12 months – is pleasingly hard to pin down. Check, for example, flipside “Lamia”, which laces traditional Arabic singing and exotic textures over a sparse, clandestine minimal techno groove. There’s an intriguing swing to it, too, with glitchy electronics providing part of the rhythm. Lead cut “Cywilizacja Part 2” is equally as intriguing, and is probably best described as “broken techno”; its’ groove sits somewhere between bruk and UK garage, but its oddball vocal samples, hypnotic pulse and murky atmosphere is pure late night techno. Impressively different, all told.
