Part of the burgeoning roster of Particles talent, Simos Tagias has been a revelation in the underground dance scene, continued now with his “Drunk State”. Well over a century of production credits adorn the Greek’s portfolio with Lynx, Silk Angel and Stellar Fountain finding a regular home for his work. A pair of remixes and a pair of original works provide symmetry to Tagias’ work for Particles thus far, and it is the second of these original pieces, featuring on the jewel encrusted “Summer Particles 2014” compilation, that we now return with a full release of the smooth, thickly textured pads and rolling percussive groove of “Drunk State”. A high-calibre offering that demonstrates Simos Tagias’ full range of production skill, the track now receives two remixes from southern Europe. From a passion for electronic music from an early age, Oscar Vazquez made the transition into active participation aged 17. “Engaging in the local scene” then led to a pause for reflection as Vazquez honed his appreciation for a range of sounds. A residency at “R2” in 2000 then ultimately saw a move into production and his “true passion: making music”. A further residency at “La Vaca” and a substantial collection of original and remix material has seen Vazquez work allied to such esteemed labels as Liquid Grooves, Lowbit, and David Granha’s Aegyptia, to considerable success. A Particles debutant, the Oscar Vazquez remix of “Drunk State” retains the shape and flow of Tagias’ original as the opening provides welcoming familiarity. A new rhythm section provides a collage of open and closed hats and, as the track evolves, a new angular and industrial sounding motif provides further interest to a classy interpretation. Andrea Cassino needs no introduction both for his collaborative work with Alex Laben and for his own solo endeavours. His music signed to Armada, Tilth and Proton and supported by Richie Hawtin, Mauro Picotto and Sasha, Cassino’s pedigree has never been in doubt. Moving to a more tech house inspired sound when embarking on solo work, Cassino’s music has found a home on Lowbit and the full array of Balkan Connection family imprints while also producing a clutch of new collaborative works with fellow Italian, Danny Lloyd. A glittering DJ career playing alongside such luminaries as Dubfire, Wehbba and Format B now sees Andrea Cassino return to Particles, following up a remix of Lateral Cut Groove’s “Organised Chaos” in September 2013. A deep, hypnotic bass line anchors a straight house beat while subtle groove is found from an exquisite percussion section. Developing with poise, a wonderful melodic phrase drifts across “Drunk State” in repetitive glory until a change of chord progression at the mid point elevates the remix before dropping back into rhythmic rapture. A pair of remixes from Oscar Vazquez and Andrea Cassino has extended Simos Tagias’ “Drunk State” providing a new party from which club goers can continue to revel.
