Has been an amazing 2014 for us and this is the 12th installment of the Rebirth Essentials compilation, which includes our best releases of the last 12 months.
One of the instrumental track of the summer, ‘The Infamous’ by Butch & C.Vogt is an infectious combination between a subtle jazzy drum pattern, a driving bass line, strings and an irresistible rhodes theme, all played live. Something you would never stop to hearRobytek and Shield add their distinctive groove for more dance floor action. Hammered by Gilles Peterson and Rainer Trueby, Jazzanova, Moodymann, Kerri Chandler, Kyodai…and n.1 as most charted track on RA, ‘Open Your Eyes’ by Corrado Bucci is an effective track with strong breakdowns, a warm house groove and old school vocals.
Detroit’s Andrés (Mahogani Music / Slum Village) delivers his signature vibe and smooths it out even further into a soulful neo-disco-house interpretation ! Hailing from Estonia, Sander Mölder shows his roots in funk, garage and deep house with the strong track ‘In Your Eyes’, remixed by Moscow-based dj and producer Lay-Far. The Wallflower project, signed to Defected, combines the vocal, song-writing and musical production skills of Alison Marks and Leah Floyeurs and ‘Say You Won’t Ever’ has classic written all over itDeetron is responsible for a great new version for 2014.
Alison Marks is here also with ‘Mama’, a subtle and beautiful track with piano, strings and a vocal message. While ‘Descendance’ gets a cracking remix by legendary UK techno producer Aubrey who turns the track into something almost completely new. Taken from Luke Solomon & Justin Harris’s Freaks new album, ‘Wake Up’ is a strong remake of the Ian Dury and The Blockheadz classic, with an infectious remix by Berlin / Swiss production duo Oliver $ & Jimi Jules ! Blond:ish are on Rebirth with the anthemic ‘Wizard Of Love’, definitely one of the vocal tracks for 2015. Systematic boss Marc Romboy debuts on Rebirth with ‘Reciprocity’, a stunning track featuring the beautiful vocals from Bajka. Nick Woolfson, the man behind Teng Records and one half of Mock & Toof, presents his Akra project, a mix of hypnotic rhythms and deep melodic line. Greg Beato, shows why, after his eps on FunkinEvens Apron and L.I.E.S., has been already tipped as one of the producers to watch, while Lake People follows his Permanent Vacation release with a tasty hypnotic version. From Germany the hotly tipped Rising Sun drops his signature deep and emotive vibe with a string laden epic Melancholia Mix. Rotterdam hot producer Taras Van De Voorde is back with ‘Housejam’, another killer track to follow his dancefloor hit ‘1998’ .
To close the compilation, Belgian musician and producer Haring debuts on Rebirth with a slice of electronica, chillwave and minimal.
