Portuguese beat controller, bass lover and forward thinking dance-floor deviant Trikk returns to Catz ‘N Dogz’s burgeoning Pets Recordings, delivering a slice of punchy, peak time house, oozing groove, depth and kick for a memorable interpretation of the dance-floor. With previous releases peppering the likes of ManMakeMusic, Hypercolour and Container Music, Trikk (AKA Bruno Deodato) has been surely carving out a quality reputation, one that delivers EP after EP of lush sounds and carefully crafted precision.

Title track Firma takes a metronomic, ticking approach to the floor, fattened out by bloated kicks drums and peak time atmospherics, before snarling, bouncing bass lines push the track into a more techno driven mindset as the modulated oscillations get sharper and more dense as the track ploughs through. A relatively young producer, Trikk proves his production prowess on Firma, belying his years with a sound deeply rooted in a passion and understanding of the genre that many strive to reach.

Liberal goes for more compressed, tempo driven ticks and hits, taking a pulsing techno-route as a driving, melodic bass line pushes the track onward, reminding of the hypnotic overtones of early R&S Records releases and the new wave of tech house luminaries such as Stephan Bodzin and Marc Romboy.

Finally, another bastion of quality dance-floor music, Eduardo De La Calle, reinterprets the title groove into a ‘Space Odyssey’ Remix. Taking a progressive approach (a trademark that De La Calle left on big hitting remixes of the likes of The XX and more), using swirling, chanting vocal atmospherics, pulsing bass and tribal drums to offer a hypnotic groove that can long be felt after its tremors fade.
