Fresh off the back of his killer “Dawn Till Dusk” release on Mobilee and fast approaching his set for Nic Fanciulli’s A Decade of Saved party in London on November 7th, Ross Evans delivers a highly intense and groovy workout on his Super Skank EP. A longstanding and integral part of the Saved family unit, Evans taps into the imprint’s distinctly underground ethos by engaging with an acutely heady and hypnotic aesthetic throughout his two tracks.

It is the dark, brooding energy that bristles away at the heart of “Super Skank” that immediately injects the intensity that pervades throughout this entire EP. Forged by surges of deep bass, hypnotic FX and heady, druggy grooves that swell and thicken throughout, “Super Skank” is a burning, heads-down tech cut that throbs with real vigor.

“Fade To Black” has a tougher, more direct edge but is once again dominated by the bottom end. Powered by the undercurrent of wobbling, scurrying bass that crawls beneath swirling electronics and tightly woven, sharp rhythms, the track drives forward with unruly momentum.

Party starting Spanish producer Cuartero turns up the tempo and ramps up the heat with his remix of “Super Skank.” Piling plenty of swing and drive into his bassline, his remix is a pacier and more thumping adaptation. Robust 4/4s push that tempo as almost jazz-influenced synth scratches flash over the top to add yet more personality.
