Christian Smith releases his third solo album titled “Input-Output” on his own Tronic imprint. Consisting of 11 original tracks, each one embodies Christians message of creating “real” techno, with powerful percussions and melodic basslines throughout.
A more than fitting entrance, ‘Destination Unknown’ provides the listener with a masterfully constructed synth melody perfectly complimented by a haunting vocal sample that is certain to sound out across the world’s dance floors. Fusing together sounds from a number of sub-genres, Christian’s minimal masterpiece ‘Explanation’ is sure to be a favourite for those who prefer a lighter shade of techno, whereas ‘Input/Output’s’ fierce kick drums are reminiscent of his stellar releases on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode.
‘Input/Output’ is an impeccable offering from one of techno’s most talismanic figures holding within it a different blend of sounds to suit everyone’s musical palate. Each production wonderfully weaves in and out of one another yet never straying too far away from the trademark Christian Smith sound. ‘Air Castle’s’ electro esque synthesizers flutter throughout yet listeners are treated to contrasting sounds from ‘Release (Stringz)’ dark and atmospheric harmonies.
Christian’s remarkable ability to conjure varying sounds from an array of different influences is unique to say the least. A talent that eludes many within his field, it is this exact trait that has elevated Christian to mesmeric heights and in turn making him one of the most sought after acts in house and techno.
