The second volume in the “Cube To Play” is following the successful attempts of the first compilation in gathering the core elements that best define Deeperfect’s sound signature and amplifying them in one EP. Cubes To Play Volume 2 is a carefully ear-picked release consisting not only of the elements that brought Deeperfect to its prominent position in the world of electronic music, but also on the recent developments in the label’s work, partly revealing the direction that it’s chief Stefano Noferini is taking it to.
Two of the seven tracks are a display of the label’s Technoid elements: “Darkside” by Ruiz Sierra and Alessandro Grops, and “Move” by Veon are a demonstration of powerful kick designs escorted by dominant basslines and pads. Two other tracks, De La Maso and Marco Zorano’s “Work”, as well as Jesters’ “Disco 6000” are giving the compilation the famous Deeperfect tribal touch.
“Never Forget” by Julien M. and “Conspiracy” by Luca Barbieri are perhaps a golden window into one of the label’s possible future sounds: the basslines tell the story while remaining true to the minimalist choice of instruments.
Before wrapping it up, it is Luca Grossi’s “Mokito” that is not forgetting to spice the compilation with some vocal elements.
