As one of Europe’s most in-demand mastering and mixing engineers, Hannes Bieger has built an untouchable reputation, with an exhaustive client list that includes some of the biggest names in contemporary house and techno. Over the course of 11 years he has been consistently in-demand, providing his expertise and intuition to a multitude of electronic producers that have helped shape the course of the dance music scene over the years.
With a studio arsenal that feature rack upon rack of modular synthesis and analogue instruments, it’s a wonder why Bieger’s own production schedule has been largely contained to sporadic releases and remixes for labels like Poker Flat, Aeon and Incroyable, but this makes it all the more special that his ‘La Selva’ EP drops on Flying Circus Recordings, the label run by Audiofly’s Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton.
Bieger’s credentials as a mix engineer can be heard loud and clear in these two exquisite productions. ‘La Selva’, with it’s bubbling synths (inspired by the sounds of the Colombian jungle) and dramatic sweeps comes correct with a sturdy kick drum and arpeggiated bassline and lead melody using Moog synthesis. With a breezy arrangement and epic sound aesthetic, ‘La Selva’ could well be one of the uniting dancefloor moments of the year.
On ‘Caldera’, we get more of Bieger’s lush modular sound, with a cut that’s more techno orientated; the pacey rhythm and shakers propel the dark ambience forward as tense rising pads and frosty keys build to a climatic crescendo, powerful stuff from Hannes!
