Chordlust is a Calgary area based producer. He is also the founder and operator of TECHNO.BLACK, Calgary’s first 100% techno label, as well as the recently formed house and techno label MAGNETASKOPE. In addition to his forthcoming releases on RF, Chordlust has released music previously on Substation Recordings (Calgary), Angry Rabbit Records (Winnipeg), and 19Box Recordings (Japan).
Chordlust holds a DJ residency at RENDER, a DIY audio-visual event series hosted at Habitat Living Sound, Calgary’s home base for consistent support of underground electronic music. He produces custom video content used exclusively for RENDER events, and also recently established the spin-off label RENDER RECORDINGS, a mixed-genre electronic music label which will begin to see releases consistent with the events’ aesthetics and programming beginning in the latter half of 2018.
Chordlust volunteers his time as a senior organizer of Habitat Studio Social – a quarterly event put on by producers for producers, including performances, label panels, workshops, mentoring, and artist instruction and collaboration.
Chordlust is a product of the 90’s electronic music and rave scene – he has been llistening to, collecting, playing, manipulating, and interacting with electronic music for the better part of 25 years. Although he briefly produced techno as far back as 1998 using the software program ReBirth, it wasn’t until 2014 that he seriously applied himself and began to have his music published.
He is 100% self-taught, with a fierce do-it-yourself ethos, and feels experimentation and exploration is the main ingredient in making electronic music. He feels strongly that anyone willing to and committed to the idea can make electronic music, and that access to equipment is no substitute for immersion in whatever tools are available, no matter how limited or restricted.
Chordlust’s productions are a futurist statement of layered, heavily textured, sonic impressionism. Half dream, half real, and deeply nostalgic. He does not submit demos, only producing for labels on request and by demand.
