Seven years after he last featured on the label alongside DJ T., Canadian artist James Teej is back on Get Physical with a brand new EP which features a remix from Basti Grub.

The influential James Teej has been the voice of many essential tracks on labels like Rockets & Ponies and Sasha’s Last Night on Earth in recent times. His emotive, thoughtful style has featured on fabric mixes, got support from the likes of Radio Slave and Seth Troxler, and has seen him play everywhere from DC10 to Panorama bar, while he has also collaborated with the likes of Silky and Timo Maas, as well as DJ T. on this label.

First up here is his own fantastic Shady Warehouse Acid Redub of ‘Follow the Shade’, which, as it sounds, is perfect for cavernous, dark spaces. It has soft acid lines rippling over the stripped back drums, with wordless vocals adding detail and dry hits riding up top. It’s a steamy track that will work the floor into a lather.

Remixing the original is Basti Grub, an uncompromising German artist who is hugely prolific on the likes of Aprapta Music, This And That and Mobilee. His fresh remix is an atmospheric track with spooky synth sounds and whispered vocals. They have you looking over your shoulder as the eerie pads linger in the shadow and make this a brilliantly involving effort.

Last of all comes the original version, a sparse but absorbing trip into bleeping synths and rolling drums that invites you deep inside. The cautious vocals add to the sense of eeriness and heavenly pads bring warmth and soul to a truly original offering.

This is a fantastic EP from one of house music’s most assured names.
