Following on from last year’s Speicher 104 split release with T.Raumschmiere, Kompakt mainstay Reinhard Voigt flies solo. “Das Singende, Klingende Ding” showcases his unusual approach, with a rolling, lopsided rhythm and a live bass providing the basis for shrieking birds – the result is like a distant cousin of Gelsoten Cirkel’s “Swedish Woman”. By contrast, “Tausendmal Zu Viel” is a droning, slow-burning arrangement, made all the more evocative by a vocal sample interspersed randomly throughout the arrangement. Changing course once again, Voigt drops the mutant disco of “Der Mann, Der Nie Nach Deutz Kam”, where a cacophony of background noise unfolds, which includes a horse snorting and layered vocal samples.
