After the success of his Aikido EP back in May, we knew we had to have Made By Pete back on Yoshitoshi. The UK producer’s slick brand of melodic house is tailor made for the kind of big, dark rooms we love, and he continues to impress with his next effort: the Hawkins EP.
The title track features a prominent Moog-style plucked lead that builds and spirals through three minutes of grandeur before giving way to an ethereal breakdown that creates a unique and melancholic vibe. Then things are kicked back into high gear with Made By Pete’s intricate leads, guiding you through more uplifting, dark sonic territory.
“We Were Young” picks up on the Afro-house vibe that we heard on Aikido, with highly textured percussion and staccato synth plucks that create syncopated rhythms over lush string pads. Made By Pete displays his ability to meld groovy, floor-oriented beats with emotive, layered elements that tug at your heartstrings.
On remix duties is the extremely talented Murat Uncuoglu, making his Yoshitoshi debut with a driving mix of “Hawkins.” The Turkish Afterlife-affiliate beefs up the original with a pounding techno bass line and piles on saturated drum hits that make this track a true peak-time weapon. Murat retains all the elements of the original, keeping the spirit of it alive in his powerful mix.
It’s great to see Made By Pete continue in such great form on his second effort for Yoshitoshi and we hope you love this diverse and exciting EP as much as we do.
