Beginning the new year with renewed optimism and music to soothe the soul, the 84th release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital returns with a tribute of an electronic music classic. A hallowed name in the annals of dance music history, Robert Miles lit up 1996 with a tune that became an iconic, ageless track. As highly regarded today as it was when originally released, “Children” is especially poignant in light of the Italian producer’s tragic early passing at age 47.

Bringing “Children” back to the forefront of the underground dance scene, Italian duo Aki Bergen and Richter now revisit the timeless masterpiece. Established artists in their own right, the duo has worked alongside the likes of Dubfire, Noir, Miguel Migs, and Shara Nelson from Massive Attack, with support from the DJ glitterati of Dixon, Âme, Marco Carola, and Richie Hawtin. Tied by a common bond, Bergen and Richter’s passion for “a deep groove or melodic sound” has seen their music grace a host of impressive imprints after a 2015 debut remixing Oliver Schories for Parquet Recordings. Since then, releases for Toolroom / Rhythm Distrikt, KDB, Armada Subjekt, and Lauter have shone a spotlight on the Italian pair’s talents.

Making their Perspectives Digital debut, their reinterpretation of “Children” sees Robert Miles’ iconic piano motifs scattered across a 9-minute offering like jewels caught in the sunlight. Teasing at first but building in layers, a subtle groove and chest-thumping kick provide the perfect rhythmic accompaniment. An array of new instruments and effects help provide a sympathetic and powerful reworking to herald the original’s 25th anniversary.//
