Charlotte Bendiks, Plevna – Inga Elektra on Multi Culti – An Underground Gem

As I press play on the new track from Norwegian artist Charlotte Bendiks, a familiar constellation illuminates my laptop screen: the Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters. These stars -both ancient and ageless -set the tone for a piece that feels equally etemal. Next to me, my seven-year-old daughter grabs a headphone and leans in. Named after her, Ingá-Elektra is an audial portal that blurs the boundaries between the ancient and the cosmic, the terrestrial and the otherworldly. Bendiks, known for her hypnotic, atmospheric production style, is joined by collaborator Horatiu Serbanescu (aka Plevna), who draws from the vibrant traditions of manele -a genre rich with Balkan, Turkish, Arabic, Romani, and Greek influences. Together, they create a soundscape that feels like a coded message from: lost civilization, pulsing with life beyond its six-minute runtime. Listening feels like stepping into a dreamscape: my daughter crouches to the rhythm as if in a jungle, swiping at imaginary banana leaves, while the sounds transport us into an undefined – part sci-fi, part shamanic. This is music that doesnt just move: it envelops. The story of Ingâ-Elektra began in 2017, when architect and artist Joar Nango- my partner- brought Bendiks and Plevna together for his project European Everything, created tor the prestigious Documenta 14 exhibition. Rooted in an imagined, utopian vision of a borderless and feminist state, the collaboration combined maneles vibrant rhythms with tones of a sprawling arctic landscape. The result: a luminous sound experiment bridging cultural traditions and breaking geographic boundaries. The name Ingá-Elektra carries layers of meaning. Ingd is a tribute to her Sámi grandmother, while Elektra-derived from the Greek word for radiant and shining -is also the name of one of the brightest stars in the Pleiades. A fitting homage to the constellation glowing on my screen and to the track s themes of lineage, community, and sisterhood. This track emerges as a beacon of resistance and resilience, dedicated to daughters, sisters, and generations yet to come. Its a sonic exploration of feminist culture, lineage, and the transformative power of sound. With its radiant echoes, Inga-Elektra reaches across time and space, much like the light of stars traveling light-vears to meet us. As Bendiks and Plevnas collaboration pulses into the air, I am reminded: just as stars can signal both the death of one era and the birth of another, music carries the power to break open the current order and breathe ire into building a new one. – Tanya Busse
