In his second full-length effort, Plastique01 expands his dense, pulsating sound with a broader spectrum of textures and colors. Built on obsessive rhythms and hypnotic structures, They Made It Their Own is a testament to both freedom and determination. Yet, while it often drives forward with relentless motion and exuberance, the album also carves out moments for reflection. Take Glass Gym Club, for example, a brief, two-minute ambient interlude that acts as a palate cleanser, splitting the album in half. Bookending the record are two striking outliers: Climb, a cut-up spoken-word piece that sets the albums thematic tone, and Love Buzz, an airy, haunted finale that evokes a dissonant symphony of strange, fluttering insects. The album also boasts two key guest appearances: Ukrainian techno esotericist Stanislav Tolkachev, who injects a sense of doom and tension into the galloping Grooveboxes, and Lady Starlight, whose presence adds a sparkling energy to the vivid, bouncy Octagon Song. They Made It Their Own is an immersive sonic journey, where hypnotic rhythms and fleeting respites intertwine, shaping a world that unfolds with every listen.
