Agu Artist Bio

Agu was born and raised in Poland, where she also started her adventure with music. Her family claims that she started singing before she was even able to speak. She gained basic music education in Primary Music School in Gdynia and later in the Music Conservatory in Gdansk, where she took 3 years training in classical singing. But opera was never her main interest. As a vocalist she rather prefered genres such as gospel, World Music, jazz, pop, or folk and she was a part of different musical groups.

In fall of 2004 she moved to Prague, Czech Republic, just because she madly fell in love with the city. She learned Czech, and in 2006 started studies at Charles University, which for a while took her main interests away from music, but since she cannot breathe without music she finds time to join choir called Mikrochor, which was later a part of a bigger project Mandelbrotovy Kostičky.

In 2010 becomes a lead singer of Džezvica — a musical group from Prague, drawing inspiration for their music from rhythms of Balkan peninsula and its surroundings. They’ve played many great concerts together and released two succesfull albums.

At the end of the year of 2012 she meets with Roman Rai — a well established name on the czech dance music scene. They start working together on a project called The Soul Science, which becomes an original fusion of indie pop and electronic music. In december 2013 they release their first EP The Soul Science, soon to be followed by a full lenght album.

In Summer of 2013, drawn by a prosaic existential need she grabs her guitar and starts playing her own songs on the streets of Prague. She realizes that she does have a lot to say as a songwriter and those songs she writes should not stay hidden in her drawer. Very soon she moves from the streets to music clubs and her name quickly starts to be recognisable on Prague’s music scene.

She writes lyrics in English, Polish and Czech. Her songs are soft, tender, often build on a basis of minimalistic loops, which evokes dreamy, meditative atmosphere at each of her concerts. Agu really dislikes pigeonhole so asked about the genre of her music her answer is „It is a ZenCore: a pinch of good pop, a drop of intimate folk, handful of lyrics from the bottom of the heart, and all this spiced up with some vocal experiments“.
