Andy Chatterley Artist Bio
Andy Chatterley is a Grammy nominated remixer, producer, BMG/Universal songwriter, recording engineer and studio owner.
At seventeen, he produced his first track with legendary synth creator David Vorhaus. He also set up his first label Sperm Records with Richard Schiessl and Nicol Chelmiah, founded back in 1993. He was a co-producer of Conscious in the heady hardcore days, with Platipus Records’ Simon Berry. He also currently remixes under the title Flash Bang. Richard Schiessl, also a co-founder, has been part of the dance scene in one way or the other since the heady days of Sunrise et al, and “that” summer. Richard is highly responsible for much of Psychic TV’s early production work, as both their studio and tour engineer. Richard’s perfectionism and sound production talents have proven an invaluable asset at Sperm. Together, Andy and Richard are ‘Apply Within’, ‘Boomerang’, ‘Free Love Foundation’, ‘Societe’ (with Warren Le Sueur), ‘Force of Nature’ (with Ian Ossia), and notably ‘Yum Yum’. released over fifty 12″ and four albums, as well as remixing five Top 10 UK releases including Toni Di Bart, Bananarama and Heaven 17.
In 1998 Andy started working with DJ Nic Fancuilli and formed Skylark. The duo, renowned for their remix abilities, became a massively in-demand act remixing for Kylie, Michael Grey, Tears for Fears and Deep
Dish, and released their first single the ‘That’s More Like It’ on Credence (EMI). Andy and Nic launched Saved Records to release “Quality House Music”. Their other act as a duo, The Buick Project became even
more in demand than Skylark remixing Underworld, Tiefschwartz, Unkle and Tracy Thorne to name a few, and it was their remix of Tracey Thorne’s ‘Damage’ that was nominated for Remix of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards.
In 2001 Andy created The Droyds and new label God Made Me Hardcore with Richard Norris (The Grid). Their first release was the now seminal ‘Girls On Pills’ and subsequent release ‘Take Me I’m Yours’ (later
licensed to Poptones). Andy and Richard (The Droyds) produced a single for Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama / Shakespeare Sister) – ‘Bitter Pill’ (God Made Me Hardcore). The same track was released by the Pussy Cat Dolls as ‘Hot Stuff’ on their debut multi million selling album PCD with The Droyds producing, and Andy further arranging and mixing.
It was whilst working on The Pussy Cat Dolls, that Andy was asked by Blondie’s management to rework ‘Heart Of Glass’ and Edison was born. Blondie vs. Edison ‘Heart Of Glass’ was released on EMI. Further
remix duties by Andy as Edison include Muse, Nelly Furtado, Nerina Pallot, Justice vs. Simian and Peter, Bjorn & John. The next Edison single will be Edison vs. Bootyslapperz ‘Pump Repeat’ set for release on Universal mid 2008.
In 2006 Andy built a recording studio complex in Islington and also launched liveroom.tv, streaming live artist performances online. He has recorded over 100 bands for liveroom.tv in the past eighteen months,
including The Magic Numbers, Scouting For Girls, Operahouse, Siobhan Donaghy, Lightspeed Champion and Pete and The Pirates to name but a few. As a BMG/Universal writer, he currently has tracks in production co-written with Shep Soloman, Hannah Robinson, Paul Harris, Stella Attar, Vince Degiorgio and Alex James and has also written and produced music for various TV and film productions including Miss World (Done & Dusted), The Salon (Endemol), The Showbiz Set (Chrysalis), Beyond The Grave (Hammer House Of Horror – 2008)
In 2007 Andy was asked by Kanye West to add synths & keyboards to his multi million selling album Graduation. Andy featured on numerous tracks, most notably the number 1 single Stronger.
2008 started with a number of dj gigs lined up with a notable date which Andy headlined at Zouk in Singapore. With Skylark going out as a live outfit at european festivals such as Global Gathering. Regular slots at the Atomic nights at The End and a gust spot at the Ministry of Sound.
The massive album from Skylark ‘i-Panik’ went under the remix knife with numerous remixes from acclaimed producers from around the world. With Andy moving into productions under his own name and signing to multiple labels in the house scene, his flow has been consistent throughout the year.
Andy has more than 10 new tracks and collaborations lined up for the end of the year whilst also continuing his new project, ‘Union Of Numbers’. Under this concept Andy produces and releases a new track every single week of 2008 available exclusively on Beatport. The tracks are being released in a numerical sequence to create the first ‘Union Of Numbers’ through the offshoot label Alpha Beta. Each release explores a different shade of electronic music from deep house through to techno and have received huge support from artist’s across the world.
Andy’s latest track, “Access The future” was first showcased on Radio 1 on Friday 7th November and labelled by Pete Tong as “suberb”. Repeat R1 airplay a week later saw the track fully road tested and credited as the Essebtial New Tune (14th Nov). Watch out for major release of this new track before the end of the year.
“Access The Future” is Andy’s second Essential New Tune this year after his LSL project feat Natasha Low, “I can see Stars” was featured as the R1 in Ibiza Essential New Tune this summer….
Andy Chatterley is the complete package: multi-instrumentalist, composer, programmer, recording engineer, mixer and producer, as much at home recording lo-fi indie as producing hi-fi pop, or programming beats for the hip-hop elite. He is proud to be joining Stephen Budd Management alongside a host of world class house and techno producers.
Andy owns his own studio complex in Islington, London which enables him to record and produce tracks for the artists he works with to the best possible standard without the restrictions of working in a commercial studio. He has recorded over 100 bands in his studio for liveroom.tv over the past 18 months, including The Magic Numbers, Scouting For Girls, Operahouse, Siobhan Donaghy, Lightspeed Champion and Pete and The Pirates, and has recorded and mixed all of the other tracks there that he has produced and remixed recently.
