Brine Artist Bio

Relocated from the capital of Sweden to the city of Gothenburg on the west coast, Brine has led the fragmentary guitar noise experiments and dark electronica of their earlier EPs in the direction of more conventional songwriting. Offering more song-oriented material than the group’s earlier efforts, Brine’s latest album “Story vs Plot” (2008) isn’t conformist in any sense of the word. It’s safe to say that the album is structured around an aesthetic of eclecticism. Rooted in various fields of music, Brine fuses what is beautiful in rock with more off-beat elements, and transforms the disparate influences into something of their own. Traditional instrumentation of drums, bass, and alternately-tuned guitars blends with the unusual sounds of the homemade antler. Among Brine’s more obvious influences, one can hear renowned bands like The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and Pixies, but also lesser known acts such as fellow Swedes Soviac, Red Moon and even Audionom.

Brine was also the name of a hardcore punk band from Springfield Missouri U.S.A. They played in their local area throughout the 1990’s and released a handful of 7inch records on independent labels.
