Bwana Artist Bio

There are at least three artists using the name Bwana.

1) Bwana are an obscure psychedelic-funk-jazz-rock band from Nicaragua circa 1970-1972. Lots of Latin percussion, acid rock guitar, jammin’ organ. Spanish language vocals for the most part, although actually the majority of this consists of instrumental grooves. Bwana must have been a hot live band. There’s certainly many flashes of acid-psych intensity but this really will appeal more surely to the Dusty Grooves/lounge crowd than those only hoping for the real freaked-out stuff. More Santana than Mutantes, in other words, and strongly psychedelicized.
Bwana is a latin rock concert band from Managua Nicaragua in Central America. The first album was recorded by CBS in 1970 in San José (Costa Rica) after their first appearance at the beginning of 1970. Original founder members are Roberto Martinez, guitar, bass player and singer, Danilo Amador, keyboard player and vocal backgrounds, Jaime Vanegas, drums and timbales, Salvador Fernandez latin percussionist, Luis Malespin, guitar player and background vocals, Tony Vasquez, Bass player and Cali Aleman,Vocals

2) Bwana (Nathan Micay) is a young Canadian electronic music producer currently living in Leeds, United Kingdom. He released his debut EP “Over & Done” in 2012

3) bwana is the boundless, Belgium-based music project of singer-songwriter and music producer Friedel Dufait. bwana is a ‘one woman band’ and had mastered all the instruments you need to form a band. She writes original and heartfelt lyrics, in which you might recognize yourself. She immediately manages to win over souls with her low melancholy guitar lines accompanied by a recognizable, powerful and low singing voice.

Her straightforward lyrics and lofi approach are immediately reminiscent of Stef Chura, girl in red and PJ Harvey.

During her selection for Humo’s Rock Rally 2022 or as finalist of Sound Track 2021-2022, she immediately managed to convince with her live performances of her songs. No wonder she was tipped off by Pukkelpop programmer Eppo Janssen and to put it in his words: ‘Keep an eye on her.’ Read more on Last.fm.
