Chanty

Chanty Artist Bio

Chanty is a japanese visual kei band that started its activities in 2013/09/16. The band’s concept is “music that pierces your heart”, and the name comes from the rhythmical songs of labour sung by sailors, representing the way that music can give people strength. Their visual look is typically light and airy, employing a lot of white and relatively subdued hair and makeup. Their music has a similar appeal, leaning more towards an elegant and energetic brand of indie rock, rather than the aggressive punk and metal sounds favoured by many of their contemporaries.
Chanty made their overseas debut in 2016 at the Oklahoma convention, Tokyo in Tulsa. The band went on hiatus in April 2017 after guitarist shia. was arrested on charges of fraud, but they returned as a quartet that September. In 2019, their second original guitarist 千歳 (Chitose) departed to take care of his mother with cancer, which left them with three original members. The recruitment of their current guitarist 白 (Shiro, f.k.a Aika) followed in May of 2019, where they also released their 8th single 叫びたくなったから (Sakebitaku Nattakara). In June of 2021, Chanty saw the departure of their drummer, 成人 (Naruto), due to pain in his right wrist making him unable to play any longer. He is said to have started feeling discomfort a year prior, and over time his symptoms worsened until his hand would no longer respond due to the pain. His last performance with the band was held at Akabane ReNy on June 13th. His exit from the band coincided with the bands release of their 11th single and new music video, 春煩い (Haruwazurai)
