Dj Marika

Dj Marika Artist Bio

Florin Marica aka DJ Marika is one of the few people deeply involved in the early Romanian underground music scene. Beginning 1994 with his radio-show “Blue Lines” at Fun Radio, one of the most fancied radio stations at that time, he provided access to hard-to-find electronic music and alternative rock coming straight from indie labels.
In the same period he puts the grounds of Fire In Water – a band which brought him some awards (Assos New Tallent Festival, Klub Bizzar).

After about two years of struggling with the thin audience for this kind of radio show, Florin transfered with his lavish music supplies at 2M+/ActivFM radio station, with a show called Dance Time(later Ultra FM). In 1998 he becomes editor/producer for the first music channel in Romania – Atomic TV, with the shows Metropolis and Rockada, standing as maybe the only underground music promoter in Romania involved in three national audience music shows.

The show on Activ FM blends into Selectro (www.selectro.ro) and becomes the juiciest source of underground music around, being invaded by a big bunch of bands and DJs which didn’t have access on any other media channels. Ultra FM/Selectro promoted and helped the rising of unknown projects/bands, which thereafter became quite popular on the Romanian grounds: Suie Paparude, The Grooveoholics/Sunday People, Paranoia, Hypno, NSK (DJ Vasile-Elecric Brother-Matze), Junkyard, Alien Pimp, D-Laid, Hard B(Unu’) and so on.

From The Web Club to Embryo, being among the Heineken Thirst finalists touring the country, 2005 took DJ Marika to another level, this being the period when he starts working on some tracks for his first album. DJ Marika is now mixing around the country and has a weekly DJ residence for Bucharest. Read more on Last.fm.
