Fomalhaut Artist Bio

There are at least three artists sharing the name Fomalhaut: 1) a heavy metal band created in 2006; 2) a progressive metal band from Beijing, China; 3) a black metal/dungeon synth solo project from Pittsburg, USA

1) Fomalhaut is started by Erik Maclure who is the lead vocalist and guitar player. Few month after, the bassist Isleta Checa Rubio come to this proyect based in a conceptual powered metal. At beginning of 2007 year, after a little european gig, Fomalhaut releases the first work, a single called Fomalhaut, with two themes, “A Trip Through a Black Hole” and “Cry for Me”, who achieves some success around Europe.

2) Fomalhaut originally started in Beijing in 2006, released demo tracks and played a handful of shows in local venues like 13 club and MAO Livehouse (if you are familiar with Chinese underground scene you might have heard of these venues, sadly, both had closed down a few years ago). After the band members had finished their undergrad and moved on to different paths, the band entered hiatus. Guitarist Qiaochu “MadPig” Tang went on to pursue his PhD at Chinese Academy of Science while carrying on his music endeavors with new projects, drummer Can “Volcano” Tang moved to Canada and then Seattle for his IT career, vocalist Shan “Schaan” Hua moved to Germany for his architecture design career, essentially scattering the band on three continents. In 2021, Madpig asked his long term friend Xiyu “Humbug” Yang to join the band and assume production duties. So far the band has released two singles, “Kar” (“Snow” in Turkish”) and “Sister”.
