Golden Teacher Artist Bio

Golden Teacher started life as a collaboration in Glasgow’s legendary Green Door studio between various bands from the city’s fertile DIY scene. Brothers Laurie and Oliver Pitt (formerly of noise punk trio Ultimate Thrush) cover drums and percussion respectively, whilst Americans Richard McMaster and Sam Bellacosa (of all-analogue house duo Silk Cut) take on electronics duties. Charles Lavenac of noise rockers Blue Sabbath Black Fiji and Cassie Ojay of the duo LAPS, and the only native Glaswegian in the band, provide vocals.

The results of their collaboration turned the ears of all who heard them, not least the Optimo Music label, on which they’ve released a string of acclaimed EPs, starting with the 2013 Bells From The Deep End. In 2017 they released their debut album No Luscious Life.

It’s a little hard to describe Golden Teacher’s hypno-psych voodoo groove, but imagine Arthur Russell’s Dinosaur L jamming with Bobby O, K Alexi Shelby, Liaisions Dangereuses, Imagination, some voodoo drummers and Sly & Robbie.
