Gry Bagøien Artist Bio

Gry Bagøien born in Denmark 1975. Gry grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark, Norway and Mozambique.

In the beginning of the 90 she founded the sound art group Æter (Ether) with Jacob kirkegaard They made the lp “Luftantenner” 1996 Gry met the legendary drummer FM Einheit (Einstürzende Neubauten) turing Europe and USA. They released two albums Touch of E and Public Recordings. Featuring artist such as Funkstorung, Pan sonic and casper Brötzman.

In 2001 gry started a master study at the academy of Media Arts Cologne and graduated in 2007 she founded the group The Loverz with the artist Jan Arlt releasing the album Love. Moved to Berlin started her own label Present Records. she released her solo Ep Anima. She then med The musician and producer Francis Harris working with him on he’s latest two albums and she`s is now signed on the New Yorker label Scissor and Thread.

Gry`s music ranges between acapella and electronic Dance music. Her unique way of singing and using her voice include recording and looping of words, rhythms, and field recordings, creating experimental and melodic compositions. Gry’s text work has its own poetic logic; in her idiosyncratic way she deals with love, life, and death in both Danish and English, in some songs even with these and many other languages mixed together. In her live performances her looping-vocal composition is build up from scratch leaving the artist naked for the audience who can follow the act of creation while it happens.
