Jayson

Jayson Artist Bio

Every superstar possesses a talent, but beyond their gift some have a story. Emerging pop and r&b sensation Jayson Peña has had a compelling ride on his journey to the top.
Jayson was born October 28, 1989 in Harlem, New York. Raised in the Bronx, he developed a love for music and dance through his parents. His father taught him his dance moves and his mom being a D.J. sparked his interest in the music scene. As far back as he can remember Jayson has been dancing. He did not discover his vocal talents until his middle school years. Once he found this vocal gift he combined it with dance and began to develop them by performing in talent shows. In his early trials he received a lot of negative attention because people did not believe in his ability to sing. Defying his doubters Jayson continued his journey eventually and gained some unparalleled media exposure.
His career consisted mostly of backup vocals and dance for groups like “Marcy Place”. The launch to success in Jayson’s career came when he became the 5th member of a music group titled “US5”. He was added to the band by winning a German TV show hosted by the pop group. “US5” rose to stardom in Europe with hit singles such as “Maria”, and “Here We Go”. With the band Jayson performed in large venues holding crowds of approximately 60,000 fans. Reaching celebrity status in Europe allowed Jayson and the group to branch out and gain a following in Canada and Japan. As time moved forward the band grew apart and eventually separated. Now he is preparing for a new life as a solo artist.
In his budding solo career, Jayson is staying true to his hip hop and pop roots. His music and dance are influenced by idols like Michael Jackson, Usher. He does his own choreography, engineers his music and does much of the writing. Around the age of 18 he started to spend time in music studios around New York simply because he wanted to be in the environment. In his short time as a solo artist he has performed at Mayfair, Musikfest and Croc Rock Café. He has opened for Day 26 and May 29, 2010 Peña will be performing alongside Bruno Mars in Atlantic City, New Jersey at Paradise Weekend hosted by College Mansion.
As a performer, Jayson wishes to develop his vocals and dance, and more than anything be true to his fans. He believes that music is meant to be fun and lyrics should be easy to relate to. Jayson wishes for his music to fit the mainstream in order to be heard. His goal is to be as close to perfection as possible, yet still be “plain old Jayson”. Even though he is on the cusp of superstardom, he likes to be humble and really give back to the fans. To him it’s not about the money, but rather the journey to the top and his love for music.
