Julien Loreto Artist Bio

Julien’s involvement with the electronic music scene was born from the warehouse phenomenon of the mid 90’s when he was a fixture at underground raves. Coming out his rock infused childhood, he began listening to DJ’s like Richie Hawtin and Derrick May. It wasn’t long before Julien realized his calling and began making mix tapes for friends. By year 2000, he nailed mainstay DJ status at the legendary Mad Bar playing along side house music luminaries like Derrick Carter, DJ Heather, and Miss Honey Dijon.
As Julien’s musical tastes evolved into a more techno and minimal based sound, his experience behind the decks also grew. The combination of creative programming, tight technical skills and funky to freaky musical selection lead to residencies in a number of iconic underground clubs such as the world renown Guvernment Nightclub and Toronto after-hours favourite ,The Comfort Zone.
Julien’s exploits have transcended Toronto’s local scene as well with amazingly received appearances at the BPM Festival in Mexico and other North American cities where he has played opening sets for world class DJ’s such as Dubfire, Benny Benassi, Pablo Ceballos and Lee Burridge.
As an artist, Julien is already gaining ground on various DJ charts including the globally competitive Beatport top 100. Loreto’s singles, such as “Don’t Stand So Close,” which peaked at number 13 on Beatport’s minimal chart, and the infectious “Musica” which also rode the minimal chart, are powerful examples of his innovative spirit and unique musical insight.
In May 2009, “Musica”, which was released on Generation Recordings, was found on Ahmet Sedil’s “2nd Anniversary of The Sound Of Istanbul” compilation. Another Loreto track, “State of Mind,” appeared on a Smirnoff Vodka sponsored compilation in Venezuela as well as Restructured’s “Canada Loves Techno” compilation.

Keep your eys and ears on Julien as his journey in the house and techno music realms has really just begun.
