Miroslav Artist Bio

The four young men of Miroslav met in college under mundane circumstances. Guitar-playing art student and indie rocker Adam knew Dave, a guitar-playing engineering student with a Brit-pop fetish. Adam also knew Nate, another art kid who, at the time, was into ska, and who played bass. Dave roomed with Deryck, a Metallica fan and percussionist of the Latin persuasion. The four practiced in the basement of a pre-school, encouraged by the fact that they were never booted out (they didn’t exactly have permission to be there). Underground, they played songs by the Pixies, Spoon, and Pavement, at the same time pooling their “eclectic” tastes to create their own bastard mash of heated noise-pop.

Four years and scores of shows later, Miroslav have opened for Spoon, Denali, Xiu Xiu, and Calvin Johnson; played for crowds ranging from a meekly supportive 3 to an enthusiastic 500; graced and disgraced Pittsburgh’s finest venues, and released a debut album, No Existo, and an EP, Treaks by Volume, both of which have received air support from stations such as WRCT and WYEP, and critical appreciation in local publications such as The City Paper and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Miroslav had it’s final show on January 28th, 2006. The members had to move on, due to various geographical job-related circumstances. They are still the best of friends. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
