Phooka Artist Bio

Phooka, alias Francesco Maddalena, born in Italy in 1978, is the official father of the Homework project and of the new Italy based minimal label called Beatperminute rec. Ambitious, he begins to stimulate the chips of his PC 9 years ago with homemade and ridicules productions, born in the dark side of his Bologna’s small room. After a live set for the first edition of ‘Homework Festival’ in Bologna, he appeared on some netlabels and compilations, so virtual and underground that they’ve never been produced or published. He has participated to some contests and has appeared in some late hour local radio shows. Fascinated by the noise and irregular rhythm (he often gets deeply astonished by listening to Alva Noto), he dedicates more time following a “Reason” timeline instead of planning logos and advertising campaigns (2° passion and current job). He created a virtual graphic desing agency (Love™) with his faithful partner and favorite singer, Sara Capatti.
From 8 bit to abstract hip hop, from minimal tech to arcade low-fi, everything far away from the hated house music is part of his daily meal. He dreams Berlin but lives in Rome, sharing a room with a noisy and unreliable PC, Powerbook and audio-video machines. Read more on Last.fm.
