Telly Artist Bio

Born in Washington DC in 1993, Montel Yancy aka Telly has been rapping since he was 12 years old. His mother is a poetess and he was raised listening to music from his mother and sister as a child. Well versed in music from various artists, from The Stylistics to Biggie and Big L to Earth, Wind & Fire, his knowledge and love for music goes further than just rap music. Known for his complex metaphors and punchlines and ever changing flow, he dropped his first mixtape entitled “Teen Martian: Year of the Droid” in 2010. He has since been working in productions in his college, such as opening up for the Lux Fashion show in 2011 and portraying Horatio in Hamlet: the Hip Hopera. He has also been released various off the top freestyles and released them online and competed in a rap battle at his school in which he won. This spring he aims to release his second mix tape entitled “Still Learning,” saying the title was thought of because “we never stop learning. It’s a daily thing that you gain and it transcends school and college. You learn in every aspect.” He is also a member and moderator of Rap Genius. 2012 looks very promising for this young man.
